I've expressed my views on this before, but was pleased to discover that I have not tired of expressing them.

Though it's not an approved standard, I prefer to use "check" and "clear" as the action verbs.

Check the Select All check box to delete all the fields. When you clear this check box, any selected fields will be deselected.

(Note that my antonym for selected is deselected. That's but the whim of this moment.)
