I wouldn't ditch the entire deal. Tell the recruiter about what happened,
though, and say that if you do work with him, you want to be assured those
tactics will not be repeated. It seems a shame to pass on a job you would
otherwise enjoy and be paid well for.

In other words, don't let the AR spoil anything for you at all.
