First, I apologize if I am being repetitive...I cannot remember if I
mentioned this before on TECHWR-L. Things have been a bit hectic
recently...

It happens that I am pursuing two job opportunities, one in Russia and
one in Ukraine. There are a surprising number of oursourcing firms in
the former Soviet Union, but there is also an increasing realization
that documentation has been the weak part of the entire equation.

As it happens, the lack of long-term employment has kept me from
getting a visa for my Ukrainian wife and stepson...so, obviously, I am
hoping that the Ukraine position comes through.

However, working in Russia would still enable us to be together. Of
course, Novosibirsk (the capital of Siberia!) is a *bit* remote!

I mention all this to say that there are some rather surprising
aspects to outsourcing from the tech pubs perspective. From the
quality of the writing from many of our list colleagues from India,
opportunities there for a Western tech writer may be quite
limited...but that does not necessarily apply everywhere and
especially where good English proficiency is a limited commodity.

One thing I have not understood completely is why more companies
seeking to move development offshore don't consider New Zealand...but
that is a topic for another time.

David
