Can anyone point me to a resource that explains how to do this?

If you use a scripting language to generate your html from content stored in a database (in other words, if you're using ASP or PHP or the like), the usual way to approach this is to add a "printer friendly" button somewhere on the page, then use a simpler page template to generate a more easily printed page that the browser can handle more gracefully.
