This is not really true. What is true is that French people
(and I think Italians, Spanish and others) use "," instead of
"." in decimals. British, Australian, and scientists in the US,
do not, they use ".", whether the decimals they are writing
are to do with miles, kilometres, furlongs, watts, or elephants.

So it's not a metric/us measurement thing, but a how do you
write decimals in certain countries thing.
