Ed, your post brings up another aspect on what Jessica needs to do--narrow her topic.

"Using 3D graphics in online documentation" is a pretty wide subject area, and 1,000 words is only about five pages double spaced type.

I expect a trip to the local library and a few minutes with the catalog could get her a number of texts just on the theory of three dimensional projection in art and drawing. I have an old engineering drawing text on my bookshelf at home that has the better part of a chapter on the differences between isometric drawings and isometric projection alone. And we aren't even talking about using it for graphics in online documentation yet.

I won't know Jessica for asking here, though. Someone here might have read an interesting article or book on the topic. Or we might toss out some ideas like we are doing now, and that might get her creative juices going.

If I gave an assignment like this, I'd expect my students to go
further than google. Pick a dozen popular online sites, look at them,
and brainstorm. For instance, how many sites use 3D graphics? To what
extent? Is it effective? Can you think of alternate ways to portray
the information in smaller space?
