Speaking of demonstrating the value of our profession, here's an interesting data point someone should add to our portfolio. This one is for the value of developmental and substantive editors:

Fairchild Publications pulled 200,000 copies of a special prom issue of YM
yesterday after a teen porn website address turned up in an ad for prom
dresses.

Calculate the printing cost for these 200K copies, add in the intangible cost of the nearly three times that total that had already been sold, and include the direct and intangible costs for the advertiser who made the mistake, then pass this on to your director of communications.
