Hi, Becky:

Try a Google search for "negative line spacing framemaker mif," without quotes, and similar terms. I'm not certain of the original poster, but as I recall, you need to adjust the paragraph format definition in MIF, since it's not possible to make the setting in the paragraph designer. I think it might be the baseline setting.

You're on the right track - the frame above/below needs to be coaxed to appear behind the paragraph.

Also, try searching the archives at the Adobe FrameMaker user-to-user forum, and, if the moon is in the right position, the archives at frameusers.com. Their archives aren't always accessible.

Please post your successful solution.

Hello all you bright people,

I'm trying to figure out, in FrameMaker, how to create table text that will
automatically have a shaded background, no matter in which row it appears. I
think I can do it through a paragraph format, if I can figure out how to make
the line spacing be negative, so that the text runs into an overline or
underline. But FrameMaker doesn't seem to like negative line spacing values.
