Yes, there is a way to check the "document creator" of a PDF file Rick:
you can simply open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat and choose File >
Document Properties > Description. There, you will see the Application.

And there are more advanced PDF preflighting tools, such as Enfocus
PitStop ( to check this too.

However, if you're saying that you created the PDF document from Epic
Arbortext, I still wonder why the guys from the print shop claim that
the original document is MS Word?

Using a Certified PDF ( will prevent discussions
like these.
