LOL. As a college student that chose to train for a career as a technical
writer, I had to laugh at that one.

FYI-- I've been very happy with the results from sending Jr Writers to
classes taught via the local community college's extension program.

This is how I first became a technical writer, except that nobody
sent me for any tool training. I started my career as a design and
test engineer. Most of the best writers I have worked with or managed
over the years started the same way, and not as college students
who chose to train for careers as technical writers.
