Does it matter?

It doesn't matter what your title is. You can be a tech writer,
dishwasher, marketeer, programmer, whatever... No one is waiting
around for a person of a certain discipline to walk by so they can
bestow upon them success and fame.

To answer your question, I know tech writers who are now:
* business owners
* engineering directors
* top-level programmers
* QA engineers
* product managers
* project managers
* other managers

etc...

And guess what? Very little of how they got to where they are had to
do with being a technical writer.

Don't pidgeonhole yourself.
Don't wait for someone (singular or plural) to save you.
Don't think negatively about yourself or what you do.
