To me, the FT staff's poor and late work, if confirmed, is much more
significant than their day-to-day behavior.

As a contractor, I DEPEND on slackers in the workplace. If they ever
buckled down and got all the work done, they wouldn't very well need
me, would they? Plus, when I'm a contractor I expect to work harder
than the FT staff. After all, when I'm done I get some time off and a
new gig in a little while, but they keep coming back to the same frowny
boss every day for the rest of their lives. Maybe they are just pacing
themselves :-)

Talking, surfing, emailing - I do all that stuff and I still get my
work done, and occasionally get rehired too! My email (and talking) is
a mix of personal and business communication - if my client expects me
to be a professional in my field, they should expect that I will
maintain a wide range of contacts. Surfing? If they want me to be a
good writer, they'd better expect me to be a good reader too - and most
of the good reading these days is on the web.

Mike O.
