So I'm perusing the Sunday New York Times this morning and immediately following a full-page (!) advertisement from Perdue Chicken mourning the death of Frank Perdue, I run across this gem: A half-page ad that presumably ran in other major Sunday papers around the country from OneTouch. The slug at the top of the ad is "OneTouch Daylight Saving Time Reminder. The remainder of the ad consists of instructions on how to set your OneTouch blood glucose meter for daylight saving time (Isn't it daylight savings, not saving? But I digress).

If you STILL need help, you can call a toll-free number or visit the company's Web site.

Now, pardon me, but it seems that something must be broken here. No matter how popular this particular device might be among diabetics, if the cost of running this ad (twice a year!) is less than the cost of answering phone calls from confused users, somebody screwed up somewhere. Either the user interface is so badly designed that even the printed product manual can't help, or the the printed manual was so poorly funded or badly executed that the company had to pay advertising copywriters and art directors to do a better job than their tech writers did.

Sheesh!
