I'd like to echo Dick's comments that a chair alone will not fix problems. I had a serious spinal cord injury a few years ago and was laid up for a few months. When I returned, my physical therapist came into my office and we set up my work area to best meet my physical needs. The most important thing we did? We lowered my "desk". For those of you in cube land, this is easy to do. Since I'm only 5'2", the ONLY way to align things properly was to get the desktop down to the appropriate height. Otherwise, I was constantly messing with footstools and my chair height to try and get comfortable.

Since I am without a doubt the smallest person in my department, it makes for some amusing moments if one of the taller developers comes into my cube, especially if he needs to get on my computer for some reason.

Another important change was ensuring my monitor was at the appropriate height and distance from my eyes.

Last week, I worked from home half days. I noticed the difference almost immediately, because my home office is not set up specifically for me. I normally don't spend much time in there. Within a couple of hours, I could feel my shoulders and neck aching.

As for chairs, I do have a balance ball chair that I love, which only cost about fifty bucks. I alternate that with a regular old office chair.

Of course, if your company wants to shell out the bucks for an Aeron, more power to you ;>)
