I have to disagree with this.

First, location is irrelevant. If you're away from the office, you're
away from the office. You could be across the street or across the
globe. In the end, you're at a conference, not at work.

Second, managers are not paid to deal with stress. At least I know I'm
not. Rather, we're paid to help the people we manage get their work
done while ensuring the work they're getting done is the work the
company needs to get done. We're the cream in the Oreo. ;-) And yeah,
that could be a very sweet deal, or it could mean you get pulled apart
and eaten first. ;-)

Stress is avoidable and should be avoided. Part of it is in daily
personal discipline, and part of it means getting the heck away from
the stress elements once in a while.
