Maybe XmlHttpRequest will work for what you need.
If it's even necessary. There's a lot you can do with one-trip requests, hiding and displaying on the client-side if you really *need* something jazzy.
I think XMLHTTPRequest and all the AJAX stuff is slick as snot -- and it makes me feel inadequate (for now) as a web-dev -- but you really only need it for desktop-replacement HTTP *applications*. Imparting (crummy word) information is a lot simpler than that.
Okay, I'm disappointed this thread didn't go anywhere, and it'd be mostly off-topic if it did -- if UI is off-topic. But I am here to relentlessly say that less is more, or enough is enough, or widgets enrage the savage user-breast, or something like that.
