>> Currently, if a document needs no change except that
it now is applicable to a new product, the new product
must be added to the title and the revision must be
rolled. This affects hundreds of documents sometimes.<<

We solved this problem by taking out content that changed frequently and placing it in a separate
document and referred to it from the main document.

Perhaps provide a document applicability matrix listing
which documents apply for a given piece of hardware. If
you add a new piece of hardware, you simply update the
matrix, not the main document.

CB - our matrix can be updated up to twice a week,
while the main docs involve other departments, a
change of document for the print vendor, obtaining
a part number, etc. We completely control the matrix
and are only limited by how often we can publish to
the web.
