Similar experience here.

I learned to read at a very early age by reading anything that appeared along the road (including road signs) from my choice vantage point in the back seat of my parents' '66 Dodge Dart whenever we'd take a road trip somewhere. I also don't have any need for dictionaries.

So my personal experience with technical writing as been "Dictionary? I
don't need no steenking dictionary". I'd be interested in hearing from
others who were early readers
