I don't know if this works universally (after all we are talking about
Word) but here goes... If you save your Word document as a web page,
then Word converts your embedded graphics into standalones in a
docName_files directory. So that...
...graphics that were originally... | become/remain
jpeg | jpeg (Word may also create an additional copy if the image in
png)
gif | gif
bmp | gif (Apparently there is no way to tell which were bitmaps)
Then you're on your way toward replacing the embedded images with
references. You may want to rename these files to something more
meaningful.
