Now there's a point.... STC is in the throes of a "Transformation" that seems to be de-emphasizing the chapters and enhancing the standing of other "communities," like SIGs. A lot of comments on this list have badmouthed STC as a whole when the issues appear to have been with certain bodies (mainly chapters) of the organization.

What is the situation with IEEEComSoc? Are they heavily focussed on chapters? Is there value to be had _beyond_ thapter entities? Do they have conferences? webinars? etc?

It would be most enlightening to see some discussion comparing and contrasting the experiences of individuals who have belonged to, and participated in, both STC and IEEEComSoc.
