Adobe has certifications for its products. Sun has Java certifications,
some of which might be useful for tech writers. Microsoft has
certifications for its products, too. These would seem to be the most
useful certifications. After all, the network certifications are for
particular products/companies, not for the whole technology. While there
are programmer certifications (I am assuming you mean things like the
Java certs), most employers don't mind a *lack* of one.

A Java cert might be useful for a tech writer, but if I was hiring a
tech writer for Java development environments I would value similar
*experience* or *background* much more than a certification.

I'm thinking of getting Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat, and Framemaker
instructor certs, eventually, and would probably also pursue a MS Word
cert.

Subject: Certification for Technical Writers?

Hello all,

I was wondering, are there any certifications for technical writers,
like there are for programmers and network engineers? Are they worth
the money/time needed to earn them? How do employers view them? Would
IT technical writers benefit from certifying in programming languages?
