I'm working on a "How to Index" training module and I need supporting
statistics or usage data to substantiate why an index, especially one is
that is well written, is important.

Bearing in mind that indexing is often not a favorite task of technical
writers, I've already included a "Why" section in the training that
explains why creating an index is a worthwhile task and how an index
differs from the table of contents pane and the search pane.

What I need is that data to support all of the above. I'm looking for
pointers to articles, studies, research papers, and the like.

Thanks,
Tanya
