Dan:

What is information mapping?

Definition of Information Mapping: An Analysis
approach for properly chunking of work which leads to
properly defined modules which leads to materials
properly organized for usability.

Gee wiz, where have we heard this before?

Definition of (functional part of) Structured Analysis
Techniques: An Analysis approach for properly chunking
of work which leads to properly defined modules which
leads to materials properly organized for usability.

Definition of (functional part of) Object Oriented
Analysis Techniques: An Analysis approach for properly
chunking of work which leads to properly defined
modules which leads to materials properly organized
for usability.

Definition of (functional part of) OPT (Object Process
something or another - the latest analysis tool out of
MIT which is supposed to replace the UML (an object
oriented analysis implementation)): An Analysis
approach for properly chunking of work which leads to
properly defined modules which leads to materials
properly organized for usability.

He is right on. However, the most often stated
problem with Structured Analysis Techniques, Object
Oriented Analysis Techniques (including the UML), OPT,
and all the like others: The method is way too
formalized and does not work in real life situations
(including tech doc) without making some changes.
