In a recent article at "PCWorld.com", Kurt Gerecke, a physicist

storage media for long-term was magnetic tape, with a life span
of 30 to 100 years.

Magnetic tape is good as long as it is periodically rewound, this is
especially true of older tapes. The problem with magnetic tape is bleed
through of the magnetic data to adjacent layers. I've had this happen
to me personally. So, every long term storage media has it's problems,
but most of those problems can be overcome with a long-term storage
policy, i.e., periodically rewind those magnetic tapes, periodically
copy those CD/DVDs, etc.
