To clarify and annotate a bit ...

I've been pretty much exclusively in software. Most companies were software-only, but a couple were hardware/software (DEC, Wang, HP) and I worked in the software side of things. Most were smaller companies. I like small companies best because I feel I can have more influence over what goes on even though there is a higher chance that the company may not be viable for long. Also, 20 of the 31+ years are as documentation manager, some of that time as the sole writer though I almost always hired people and built teams.

Most interesting, I managed to only go without a job for three weeks in the entire 31+ years - and that was when I moved back to the US after a stint overseas.
