A common thread on annoying words and cliches, and odd ones like
"whilst" is that we are staring at the surface of the word itself,
rather than the meaning it's supposed to convey. The real problem with
typos and spelling mistakes (which although having different causes,
have similar effects)is that you're distracted and no longer focusing
on the content.

In other words, there has been a Distraction.

So Distraction is a bad thing in writing where the reader's goal is to
understand and act.

(Ambition, Uglification, and Derision are of course, the other faults a
writer can insinuate into his or her writing:)
