Sharyn Weizman <SharynW -at- fundtech -dot- co -dot- il> asked a bunch of questions:

Here is a list long of Friday TECHWHRL questions. I hope they spur some input.

Is it Friday already? Dang, what happened to Thursday?
*Searching to see if it fell into a pocket or was squashed under a shoe.*

1. What newsletters do you subscribe to (technical, language-related, misc.)?

Sometimes I think I write nearly as many newsletters as I subscribe to, but the topics include tech comm, linguistics, CRM, science, space, science fiction, literature, media, medieval/renaissance reenactment and costuming, computers, software, gaming, and that's not including a whole slew of online listserves, blogs, and yahoogroups. Yes, I'm _always_ reading something. See answer #3 below.

2. What sites do you bookmark and access regularly?
et cetera ad nauseum

3. What diversions do you subscribe to or regularly access? How much time a day do you feel is justified in accessing/reading these kinds of things? (A former team leader suggested 5 minutes for every hour.)

I have the curiosity and the attention span of an ADHD kitten. Everything is a diversion. For instance, I'll be googling item "A" (related to one of our products) and one of the web pages describing "A" also mentions item "B," so I click the link... Next thing I know, I'm reading about the seasonal habits of Southeastern tuna ...or whatever. As soon as I realize I've gone off track, I pull myself back. That could be 10 seconds or 10 minutes later.

4. And perhaps to put everything in proportion, how many hours a week were you hired to work and do you actually work?

All of them! I'm salary, so I work anytime, anywhere. I even work in my sleep: I wake up in the morning and make a list of things I dreamt about in the hopes that I can accomplish them in this lifetime! According to the Federal Government, I only work 40 hours a week. I suppose that's the amount left over when you subtract the 'diversions' and whatnot.
