1. What newsletters do you subscribe to (technical, language-related, misc.)?

This one and others related to web SEO, creative writing, video productions and photography. (Can't remember their names at the moment and I already deleted them for the day.)

2. What sites do you bookmark and access regularly?

I scan most of the news related sites in the morning over coffee.

Google
Clusty
Comic.com (Dilbert)
Powerball (only twice a week though)
New York TImes
Anchorage Daily News
Fairbanks Daily News Miner
MSNBC
CBS-online
CNN
Science Daily Magazine
Mother Jones
AntiWar.com
Reuters
Techwr-l
Burlington Free Press
SFGate (San Francisco Chronicle online)
Los Angeles Time
San Jose Mercury News
Seattle TImes
Medford Tribune
Mother Jones
NPR
History News Network
Small Business Computing

3. What diversions do you subscribe to or regularly access? How much time a day do you feel is justified in accessing/reading these kinds of things?

Obviously reading newspapers online. I also work on my photographic website (Geist Images) and jot down ideas in my journal. When I work at home, I do this whenever the mind goes blank, because I can pick up the time later. If I am working onsite, only during lunch. I never access the Internet for personal pleasure if I am working at a clients, or employer's site. If I need a break, I read the local newspaper (printed version) or I jot down ideas for my website (see above) or other endeavor not related to the work I am getting paid to do. I hardly take breaks when I'm working on a project, but when I do, it's only for five minutes or so.

4. And perhaps to put everything in proportion, how many hours a week were you hired to work and do you actually work?

If it's a contract, it's for the project so hours per week don't count, only deadlines. If I am working onsite, or as an employee, then you get 40 hours plus or minus a couple here and there.....usually plus five to ten. If I'm hourly, then you may get 10-15....just kidding.
