Tried both utilities below last night at home on a newsletter I produce
as volunteer for a non-profit. All things being equal (which they
appeared to be at first blush), my vote now goes to PDFCreator because
the resulting PDF file was about half the size of the CutePDF output.

According to Gizmo's "46 Best-ever Freeware Utilities" list, the best
free PDF Writer is currently PDFCreator. Gizmo's second choice is the
free, cut-down version of CutePDF Writer.

Gizmo's top 46 list is available from

The "top PDF writer" info is part of the extended list, which is only
available to subsribers to the free newsletter. Recommended.
