Thanks very much to everyone who sent me ideas and help both on and
off list! This is a great list. I haven't actually gotten my digest
yet, so this may already be in there, but it turned out the the pdf
maker was a "disabled item" in Word. Here are the steps (courtesy of
Adobe) for fixing it. And, they worked! Note where this control is. I
NEVER would have found that on my own.

Solution 1: Remove Adobe PDF from the Disabled Items list in the
Microsoft Office application.

1. Open the Microsoft Office program (Word, Excel, Publisher, or Excel).

2. Go to Help > About [ program name ].

3. Click Disabled Items.

4. Select Adobe PDF from the list and click Enable.

5. Quit the Microsoft Office program and then restart it.

Thanks again, all!

Hi all,

New to the list (digest mode). Regrettably, where I work these days
all of the docs are written in MS Word (oh, the humanity!) and then
converted to PDF for distribution to the clients. Some of the Word
docs reach 200 pages.

I've been using AA 6.0 Pro to make the conversions, but it choked on
one the other day, and the end result is that the little "convert to
PDF" toolbar buttons are AWOL (there is no View>Toolbars>PDF Maker
menu option), and when I open AA 6.0 Pro and tell it to create a PDF
from file foo.doc it appears to start working, but then goes idle and
no output is actually produced. I have re-installed 6.0 Pro and still
no joy.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Bob
