It depends on the nature of the interview. If I know its going to be a short
one because we'll only be discussion some minor updates, then I just bring a
pencil and my ubiquitous notepad.

If this is more comprehensive, like a new product or module, I bring pencil,
notepad AND a digital voice recorder.

Either way, as soon as I get back to my computer I type up my notes
(including a transcription of the DVR), thoughts, and anything I might have missed.
If the new notes relate to other notes, I add them into those other notes or
at least reference the previous ones.

I hope that helps.

Good luck!

Maybe a silly question, but I was wondering
When you interview programers (or any other SMEs) about features you
have to document, do you make notes in a notebook and write them up,
or do you write directly into your computer.
Up till now I have been scribbling on bits of paper (or decorating
print outs of screen shots), but I am considering going to meetings
with my laptop.
Do you think that would be a better idea?
