I think the hiring of predominently women over men has a lot to do with the type of writing involved. When I wrote manuals for Compaq, the amount of writers overall was at 80 percent female.
In the oil and gas industry, I see the field is dominated by males. Mayebe that can be said about the software industry, not sure.
There was a small writing company in my hometown recently that also hired all women. When I had just received my degree and was looking for my first writing job, I called them for an interview. I could feel the disdain over the phone.
The name of the company was ****, Inc. I called it Estrogen, Incorporated and let everyone know.

They are still all female.
