If the montor doesn't exhibit ghost images or streaks when you
move things around, there's no issue. Easiest way to sort through
this issue, grab one of those gamer magazines and see what monitor
is the favored one there.

Any 17" LCD will display an 8.5x11 sheet at 100% fullpage if it
can be rotated to portrait mode. The panels of virtually all LCD
monitors have VESA-standard mounting holes on their backs and
can be mounted to aftermarket bases, but many of these can actually
cost more than some monitors, so if this is what you want it's best
to look for one that comes with a pivoting base out of the box.
Odds are that your computer's display adapter already has the
rotation capability.

When I'm creating documents that will be seen primarily as hard-copy 8.5x11
pages, a full-page display is a huge help. Huge. Now that I'm thinking
about it, I might ask for one.

I was not aware that the monitor plays a big part in response time. That's
starting to get out of my Power User comfort zone into Hacker territory.
