I assume you are talking about Microsoft Word here. The "normal" style is a built-in style which comes with the "normal.dot" template. I have found that avoiding this template and going to the trouble of creating my own template and my own sets of styles helps me avoid many of the pitfalls that unwary writers sometimes encounter in Microsoft Word. (My personal opinion only - "your mileage may vary")

Thus renaming your main body text stlye to "body" may help you remember that you are doing your own thing with syles and templates. There are lots of web sites to guide you on this, for example Shauna Kelly's site at http://www.shaunakelly.com/

Is there a reason I would want to use the 'body' style instead of
'normal' for body paragraphs?
