Ami's tip is almost universally repeated by every headhunter, career counselor, and how-to-get-a-job book I've encountered. It also seems sensible.

In my personal experience, I've seen long resumes from people who have been at their jobs for many years. It lists every book they've ever written. The bibliographies were impressive, but if they wanted a job elsewhere, they didn't say 'I have 25 years of experience' so much as they said 'I have one year of experience 25 times over.'

So I agree with the tip 8^)


I must have missed the beginning of this thread. As Steven says, Amy's tip is nearly a universal truth. A trip through the archives would probably return facts to support this "truth." I also agree with John's question "is this an opinion or...?" Was there a thread that I missed about "Tips on getting hired?" If there was, then I understand Amy's posting. if there wasn't, then was the posting in response to the result of sending out a five page resume?

My over 30 years of experience has been reduced to two pages of the most pertinent and recent that pertain to the job I am applying for.
