This is pretty good as generic advice, but needs to be qualified. If you are applying to a position whose description actually includes a plethora of functions and experience requirements, then a long resume may actually be necessary to fully match you to the job. But if your resume consists of five pages of the same job description pasted over and over again with different companies on each one, or a long list of experience that has nothing to do with the position you're applying for, then yes, you need to do something to prevent those of us with short attention spans (i.e., managers) from getting a headache while reading your resume and wondering if we'll have the same reacton to your work.

I think the two-page rule is probably not such an absolute since resumes went mostly electronic, though. Three probably won't kill your chances. Or maybe it's just that publications managers can handle a bit more than the average manager. :)
