"you can group them under a single heading"

I've tried that before but I was going through a headhunter and they always
came back with "the client will want to see when you got your experience. I
know this will make your resume long, but that's okay." It didn't work.
Now I just include very brief summaries of each contract with longer
summaries for the more recent work.

If your temp contracts tend to be variations on the same theme, you can
group them under a single heading in which you describe the work and the
major accomplishments that you think make you stand out, then list the
clients and time periods after that. It's also a good way to avoid drawing
too much attention to the fact that you may have been around since the Earth
cooled.
