For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Sorry, with a little experimentation, I found an even better way to do it.
Stem-sentence tag - Auto-numbering
A:< =0>\t
List tag - Auto-numbering
A:<n+1>\t
You can then have as many levels as you want in your auto-numbering for
example. I know I have two possible list levels. I would then use this
auto-numbering format.
Stem-sentence
A:< =0>< =0>\t
List-1
A:<n+>< =0>\t
List-2
A:< ><n+>\t
With this, I only need to have 3 styles instead of 5 where each list level
would need a style just for the first number. I do need to have a very
rigorous syntax because if the stem sentence isn't always of the same style
I'm introducing a problem and I can't use the reference to the paragraph
number for paragraph that have the stem sentence style.
