"Oddball"? Oh wait, that's Gadball. What's a "Gad" anyway? Egads. Maybe gad is an acronym and gadball stands for "Geeks and Developers Ball." That sounds like a party that I don't want to attend.

I searched the site for "Technical Writer" and got a few hits for a TW, but I got a lot more hits for unrelated positions like "APPAREL JOBS." They were in caps, so they were sure to stand out from those boring but relevant jobs.

Most (all that I checked anyway) of these hits were from HotJobs. I don't know what Gadball is offering if its jobs are from another search engine.

Recently, I went ahead and registered with the Gadball.com online job
search thingy. I did it half-heartedly, and can see that it was probably
NOT a good choice to make.

I'm already in the Monster.com system and a few others as well.

But one thing that really peeves me is - to me - the noticeable increase
in spam, especially from Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. wanting me to
contact them about a career with them ever since I registered with
Gadball.

Obviously, LMI is using software to data-mine or harvest e-mail
addresses with NO concern for qualifications or desires of the poor
crumb-bums like me who are really looking to STAY in tech com work.

I did NOT notice an increase when I signed up with Monster or Dice or
whatever else, but ONLY Gadball.

I did send a respectful but rather testy reply to the "sender" of the
LMI solicitation, stating that the least they could do was to qualify
who they go after.

But, alas, I already know that in sales, it's NUMBERS that count, and
surely there's a tech com pro out there who WANTS to sell insurance.

Perhaps my next step is to actually phone them (yep, a number is
provided) and tell them to knock it off.

I wouldn't be so dead-set on this if it was only one or two e-mails, but
there are quite a few of them.

Luckily, my Norton Internet Security spam feature bottles 'em all up for
me in a separate mailbox.

But still, it's so damn annoying and a waste of is supposed to be good
technology.

Or, does Liberty Mutual own Gadball.com?

Just wonderin' on a Tuesday . . . . Hmmmm. . . .
