Nancy Allison wondered: <<[why] does word show the highlighted results of a search just **above** the top of my text window? So that Ihave to scroll up after each and every search to see if it has found the result I'm looking for? Is there any solution to this *&%*!! problem, which has existed for as long as I have been using Word?>>

Why? Sloppy programming. How to solve it? Try this: After you find the first search hit, close the Find dialog. You can now press Control/Command + PageDown to find the next instance (or click once on the double down arrows at the bottom of the scroll bar). This usually finds it neatly in the middle of the screen, avoiding the whole problem. Control + PageUp searches backwards, as does clicking the double up arrows.

Only one minor caveat: Sometimes Word forgets what you're looking for (most often if you insert a comment or move around too much using the keyboard), and you have to reopen the Find dialog and click "Find next" again. But this is easy to spot: instead of finding the search term, Word takes you to your last position in the file. Not a big deal; just open the Find dialog and start over.
