Actually, the original dog and pony shows had nothing erotic about them.
They were shows put on by itinerant minstrels in the mid west and west
in which they would sing, dance, tell jokes, and have a dog dressed up
like a clown or cowboy, and the dog would jump on the pony as it trotted
around in a circle. Its true meaning is simply that, nothing more and
nothing to do with either sexist or racist language, as the minstrels
were most often white.

D&PS in the 50s referred to shows put on in the border towns of Mexico.
I don't need to go into any more detail, do I? I'm always amazed when I
hear the term used in a business meeting or - horrors - on TV.
