"Challenge" is an excellent word for describing STE. I could not have
chosen better.

Indeed, it is more of a challenge than any other writing assignment I
have endured.

I'm sure everyone here is aware of ASD-STE100, the Aerospace and Defense
Industries Association of Europe (ASD) standard for Simplified Technical
English or STE. <snip> Please see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simplified_English.

My response:

English is already effective when used properly. From what I've seen of
Simplified Technical English, may I say a firm, "yuck-poo."

STE is awkward, doesn't flow, and has all the charm and grace of an
automatic voice message system reciting Shakespeare.

In my opinion, simplifying English as STE does crushes all the joy out
of it.

I'm sure STE is useful and has its place, but Lord Almighty, I hope I
don't HAVE to use it any time soon.
