Hi Ned,

I never said "via" was too apt or too old to die. I said it was also used in
microelectronics (chip manufacturing) the same way Fred described its use in
circuit board manufacturing. Incidentally, I used "via" in my writing prior
to working for IBM, where I discovered a plethora of terms used to describe
microelectronic design and manufacturing processes in ways I had never
imagined.

However, I did like you enlightening us on the history of the term. It was
great reading over my morning coffee.
