A quick review of AuthorIT which I used for about a year.

It's quirky, the UI isn't that great (v. old fashioned too) and relies on
Word templates which takes you down into the depths of multiple numbered
lists (amongst other known issues).

However, the community and knowledge centre are excellent, and on the whole,
once it's up and running and you are used to how it works, it's a great
tool. It's a breeze to create new content from the available chunks, and I'm
seriously considering switching my new team to it in the coming year.

It has most 'standard' outputs, and can even spit out XML which future
proofs your content (to a point).

Note: Char reports that there is a new version coming (4.5 has just been
released) which will update the UI amongst other things. And there is also
going to be a BETA of the AuthorIT Live, web based editor.

I've been researching several single sourcing/content management tools, and
I've come up with three possible candidates: AuthorIT, HelpServer, and

If you've used any of these programs, can you give me a review?
Are there others that you would suggest?
Any warnings?
