For the benefit of Techwhirlers who don't use FrameMaker, this question
is about autonumbering in that application. Donna, this looks like an
old-style numbering setup (FM 5.5.6 or earlier), and I've forgotten most
of the fine points of that convoluted system.

If you're using FM6 or later, the easy solution is to change the figure
numbering to a different series and use the $chapnum variable (if your
headings work fine, you can leave them alone for now).

Since your heading series is "H:," I'd suggest "F:" for figures. So this
is what your Autonumber Format would look like:

F:Figure\ <$chapnum>.<n+>

The backslash makes the space non-breaking, which doesn't matter for the
figure captions, but avoids awkward line breaks in xrefs to them.
