I think there is some truth to this, although I put it
in these terms. Some companies are in it for the long
haul; others think their product lifespan is limited,
so are trying to grab some bucks and head out the

Those who are looking toward the longer term want to
brand themselves well, develop their product to
maturity, and then expand (I forget where this is
written, but all companies tend toward monopoly with
growth over time).


Part of branding is making sure every part of the
product experience is rewarding, unique, and
functionally empowering.
