I think I'd rather become a smoker than decide which one to buy. I
bought some clove cigarettes in Las Vegas. They aren't bad, really. Or
maybe I'm just reliving my college days. Back to business.

BEGIN RANT

Do you know there are enough Dictionaries of Modern English Usage out
there to choke a camel?

END RANT

There are various Fowler editions, Gower editions, and others.
Entertaining and humorous is great, as long as it is correct for today
and not stilted or awkward.

I myself use older phrasing on my own time because I like it. I'm not
going to use it when on the clock, however.

Which edition by which author is THE edition most recommended or
suggested by list members?

I think I need a martini.

Craig
