This implies that the candidate's personal views weren't apparent during
the application and interview process. That is, the candidate was able
to have an in-depth work-related discussion with your team without
politics intruding.

Then the candidate was honest enough to air their views in a less formal
setting (lunch room), so they're not trying to hide their views in order
to slip under your radar.

There must be people in your company who don't don't share your team's
political and social views. Are you able to work with them in a
professional way? Or do you find that your contrary views cause disruption?

I have firm opinions about a lot of things, and as far as I can tell
they're all 100% correct. I have noticed, however, that my reasoning
never quite seems as solid when I have to explain it out loud in front
of someone who disagrees with me. Maybe you and your team will find that
you actually become better informed mushy liberals/paleoconservatives
simply by being around someone who doesn't already agree with your opinions.
