>From what I understand, the developer community is going through kind of the same thing with job losses. A few months ago, on page one of the Wall Street Journal, there was a very interesting article based upon an interview that the WSJ had with Alan Blinder, former Vice Chairman of the Federal Reserve.

Alan was very pro business; he was pro the outsourcing movement. However, the jist of the WSJ article was that he has now had a change of heart. He now sees that the damage done in terms of lost America jobs is going to significantly outweigh the benefits. He gave some numbers on careers that are going to be particularly negatively impacted by job losses. Number one on his list was U.S. information technology jobs. He said the damage has JUST BEGUN. What particularly struck me about the article:

* Alan WAS pro outsourcing

* Alan says that though our gov made a mistake, the cat is now out of the bag and the dynamics are now that nothing can be done to change the situation.

OOhhhh well, ha-ha, everyone makes a boo-boo now and then.

Richard Lewis

Thanks for the article, Chris. :-\

This is a nice quote:
"The writers left in the field today are feeling pushed out of their jobs.
Salaries have dropped considerably. Demand is significantly down. Young
writers are not entering the profession at the rate they used to, leaving an
aging technical communication community."

"Leaving an aging technical communication community." How long will it be
before Techwr-l starts hawking the "official" Technical Writer's Walker,
with a laptop stand and a built-in bookshelf for reference books.
