This is why you always read the contract before signing it, and if
things aren't mentioned in the contract that should be (like rate, pay
frequency, hours, overtime/extension of contract, and other aspects)
you ask that they be included in the contract. But I generally have
set my own parameters, and if additional hardware/software is required
on my part to perform the work, I build that either into the rate or
as a flat startup fee (signing fee, whatever you want to call it).
